Tabs
The Tabs macro allows you to organize content into multiple switchable tabs. It improves readability and saves space on the page.
Key Features
- Multiple tabs in one block — Organize content into separate sections and switch between them without scrolling through a long page.
- Customizable tab titles — Define meaningful tab names when configuring the macro.
- Rich content inside tabs — Each tab supports full Confluence content: text, tables, images, and other macros.
- Compact view — Save page space by grouping long lists or large blocks into clean, switchable tabs.
- Improved readability — Simplify navigation and make information easier to digest.
Macro Tutorial
To add Tabs on your page insert the Tabs macro:
Next, add content into the macro body following these rules for defining tabs:
- The first heading inside the macro is used as the tab title.
- The Divider macro is used as a separator between tabs.
- All content placed between a heading and the next Divider belongs to that tab.
In editing mode: you can add, remove, and organize content directly inside the macro.
In page view, tabs appear compact and interactive, with only one section visible at a time.
This way you can structure large blocks of content into clear, switchable tabs.
Supports any Confluence content (text, images, tables, code blocks, info panels, etc.)
Action items (checklists) inside Tabs are clickable, but their state is not persisted.
Other Confluence macros are not supported inside Tabs.
Behavior
- No configuration is required.
- When the macro is inserted, a container with multiple tabs is created.
- The user defines the list of tab titles and their order in the configuration.
- The content of each tab is edited directly inside the macro body.
- On page view, the first tab is displayed by default.
- The selected tab is not preserved — after reloading the page, the first tab is displayed again.
Conclusion
The Tabs macro is ideal for breaking down large blocks of information into manageable sections. It works out of the box with minimal setup and keeps your pages clean, compact, and easy to navigate.
